Group Runs

We are a running club… so you could say running is kind of our thing. You can find one of our training groups running around Austin almost any day of the week. We’re not out to race (although friendly competition happens), we just really like running with great people. All you’ll need to get going is a good pair shoes, some determination, and a signed waiver. Check out the descriptions below to find a run that suits your schedule.

Monday Morning Ship of Fools

When: 5:20 a.m. Where: Meet on the Town Lake Trail, “The Rock” under Mopac on Veteran’s Drive Map: The Rock What: Group run with paces varying from 7:30-9:00 per mile, distances between 5-10 miles (usually 7 or 10 mile loops on the trail)

Description: Looking for an early morning run to beat the crowds or Texas heat? ARC members are welcome to join Jerie Kelly and other members of Al’s Ship of Fools for relaxed, pre-dawn runs. The group departs at 5:20 a.m. from “the rock” (Veteran’s Drive on the north end of the MoPac pedestrian bridge) on the Town Lake Trail. The mileage and paces vary but these are generally fun, easy-going runs. Most often the route is on the Town Lake Trail but may go onto road routes occasionally for varying interest. It is dark at this time of morning, which is good for temperatures but may be bad for footing if you are not used to it. Road runs can be hilly. Newcomers may contact the group leader, Jerie, to be given more information about next and future runs.

ARC Monday Night Run

When: 6:30 p.m. Where: Meet at Ready to Run. Located in the North Hills Neighborhood. Map: 3616 Far West Blvd What: Group run with various paces, distance is between 3-6 miles.

Description: The Monday Night Run meets at Ready to Run on Mondays at 6:30pm. The group runs different routes in the Far West and Shoal Creek neighborhoods. For every route, there is both a short option (3-4 miles) and a long option (5-6 miles). There is a wide range of paces from beginners to experienced runners and a water stop is provided on all routes. Route maps will be sent out ahead of time each week to those on the group email list.

The Monday Night Run celebrates “First Monday” on the first Monday of every month with a happy hour at a local restaurant in the Far West area.

Tuesday Evening Ship of Fools

When: 5:55 p.m. Where: Meet at O Henry Middle School on Exposition at 5:55 p.m. Map: O’Henry Middle School.What: Track workout with various paces, distance is between 2-3 miles.

Description:The Tuesday night track workout meets at O’Henry Middle School on Exposition at 5:55pm. Track workouts vary in distance and speed, but always start with warm-up drills. For extra fun, relays are a regular part of our track workouts. The Fast Group will typically run 2 to 3 sets totaling 2.5 – 3 miles overall. The Fun Group will typically run about 2 miles each night. Workouts are primarily fun with a lot of support from other Shipmates. At the same time, the workouts have an element of friendly competition. If you attend on a regular basis, your running will improve and your list of friends will grow!

On the first Tuesday of each month, Performance Wellness will be on-site for evaluations and questions. On the second Tuesday of each month, there will be a Happy Hour at a local restaurant following the track workout.

If there is a football game at O Henry Middle School, the group will meet in O Henry’s back parking lot at 10th & Wayside.

Saturday Morning Ship of Fools (Marathon Training)

When: 7:00 a.m. Where: Meet on the Town Lake Trail, Zero mile marker at Auditorium Shores. Map: Town Lake Trail, Mile Zero.

Description:Looking for a Saturday morning run? Starting at the zero mile marker of Town Lake Trail. Varying mileage and paces with routes alternating Town Lake Trail and residential hills. Some runs can be hilly.

Saturday Northwest Austin Group

When: 7:00 a.m. Where: Builder Homesite (BHI), 11900 Ranch Road 620 North, Austin, TX. Map: 11900 Ranch Road 620 N.

Description: Our Northwest Austin group meets at 7:00 AM every Saturday for varying routes ranging from 6.5 to 10 miles. As with all of our groups, newcomers are welcome. Paces typically range from 8:00 to 9:30 minutes per mile and will adjust based on the group’s needs. Some runners meet at 6:00 AM to get in a few miles before the group meets at 7:00. Routes may be flat or hilly.
