The Austin Distance Challenge is a series of the most prestigious local running events starting in the fall and leading up to the Ascension Seton Austin Half or Full Marathon in February. The races increase in distance as the series progresses, making the series a natural component of many Austin runners’ training. In its 27th year, the Distance Challenge is powered by the Austin Runners Club.
There are 2 options for competing in the Distance Challenge.
In-Person: In-person Distance Challenge participants will participate in person at the 6 races onsite on race day at the event. These participants are eligible for the Overall and Age Group awards, which will be presented at the Finisher's Party.
Virtual: Virtual Distance Challenge participants may compete in the 6 races all virtual or some in-person and some virtual. All virtual participants MUST register for a race's VIRTUAL race registration option and follow the individual race's specific virtual guidelines in order to qualify as a series race completion. If a participant races in one race as virtual and all other races in person, they are automatically added to and tracked in the Virtual Distance Challenge standings. If a participant registers as an "in-person" participant, but later changes a race from in-person to virtual, then they are transferred to the Virtual Distance Challenge standings. Virtual Distance Challenge participants are not be eligible for the Overall and Age Group awards, but are eligible for the finisher's jacket, magnets, other perks, and finisher's party.
**Virtual Option for CASA Superhero 5k: This is the only race in the series that does not offer a virtual race entry option. Therefore, any Distance Challenge runners who plan to run the CASA 5K as a virtual race may do so on their own either prior to race day OR on race day (but not after) and submit their virtual 5K result to firstname.lastname@example.org. Forms of virtual race submission include (but not limited to) Strava, Map My Run, Garmin, or other acceptable methods of recording activity and distance. More information on submitting virtual results will be communicated to Distance Challenge participants as the series progresses.
